Learning Steps for the 3 Skills

three main learning skills

Here at School Ready, Steady, Go we believe that all the learning which will enable your child to be school ready can be grouped into three main skills:

  • Learning Through Talk Skills
  • Learning Through Movement Skills
  • Learning Behaviours Skills

Key Ideas

Each of these skills has a further layer that we call ‘Key Ideas’. This gives an overview of why we have chosen these skills, how we have grouped them and how you can help their learning:

Learning Through Talk Ideas

  • Talking with your child is so valuable to their learning
  • Stimulate your child’s curiosity and thinking.

Learning Through Movement Ideas

  • We need strength and balance to control our bodies.
  • Children who are involved in imaginative play are learning.

Learning Behaviours Ideas

  • We need to give children the tools to develop self-control
  • Guide your child to develop a great attitude to learning

Learning Areas for Each Skill

The Key Ideas are developed into a further 6 learning areas within each skill; and remember, children will learn these at different paces and in different ways.

Finally, each of these 6 learning areas has been broken into more specific goals (totalling 178) that are necessary for your child's readiness for success at school.

Assessing your child against these three skills will give you a picture of their strengths and capabilities, whilst also highlighting goals that still need to be developed in your child.
